Posting Prog Rock
Took me a few hours because I had to do a side thing, back to the posts. Anyways, here's an overview for a project I had during Battle Network's anniversary era called Prog Rock because a lot of things in megaman have music themes.
The alternate name is Battle Network X.
Reuploaded from my tumblr, originally Posted in October. I was a battle network fan who completely forgot most details up til legacy collection released, so this might end up sounding more like the manga/anime than the games.
Setting the Stage for Prog Rock, the conceptual battle network sequel series I made up in my mind that originally starred Lan but then quickly got converted to a new protagonist following the idea of “what if more mavericks were in Megaman battle network” before things spiraled out of control. Featuring a lot of ideas, less of anything in chapter format yet.
I had a lot of scattered notes for this which quickly became outdated with the actual concept I came up with to push forward but I still had the original notes posted anyways. I'll probably do the same here...
Main character: Annette (Lanette? Ann? Net? URL? Something internet pun related.)
here’s where I discuss the protagonists. I’d put an image of Lanette if I could draw her, but I can’t, ao I’ll just put this description instead. Wears Blue, school uniform, rollerskates still, pigtails. She’s blue to contrast Lan and Geo’s orange/red colors. And also, this is Megaman… maybe next time I’ll draw her.
Where Lan is more hyperactive and Geo/Subaru is more melancholic (for the first part of the first game at least), Lanette takes a bit from both by having more smarts and being hyperactive but because of those she is lonely. No one wants to be friends with a know it all. She’s a bit of a techno wizard but it’s not as impressive when your dad is just an average guy and so is your brother (Tatsumi, I don't recall what his name was meant to be.) what’s a girl to do when she’s also moving to a new city because of academic opportunity?
Enter: Quint, the green guy who becomes her netnavi by sheer incident. To contrast it all, Lanette is sometimes a hard worker and a goofball, while Quint is the more serious one. In the end, that’s just pairing Lan with War-rock… never said I was good with concepts.
But in the end, this is a story about two lonely people trying to make a bond in a world that wants that bond dead. Also there are aliens.
New concept of evolution for navis: The Auto Navi System
So recall that mavericks in X are copies of X and X has free will. There was already a netnavi like that in battle network (Bass) but that project was quickly canned. Well, it’s being brought back because… I dunno, people are lazy or something and think it would be a lot easier if humans didn’t have to work with Navis. The true antagonist is capitalism.
Capturing Bass for this project was proving to be a difficult task, but there was still another Navi that would’ve proved to be worthy to be the successor to the next step in evolution: Megaman.
Quint was the rough draft, and X was the completed version. So naturally when they were inclined to throw out Quint, X showcased his free will by allowing Quint to escape.
The AutoNavi project had succeeded, and now X was to be the blueprint for all of the new Navi’s that didn’t need human operators to do work… thus starting a slow phase of no longer needing the bonds between NetOps and NetNavis. Lan is working against this as a NetAgent by trying to find a way to get X out of his position (little does he know I’m combining X’s role with his Zero role so he’s not just a guy locked away for the first storyline) but attempting to stop a total societal technological reconstruction proves to be a far larger problem than his middle school self can handle.
there’s also a secondary plot involving Mr. Prog (I think they're cute), but that’s not as important as like, the entire rebellion that’s led by Sigma, that’s blatantly obvious. What’s that about aliens? Don’t worry about it (for now.)
The plot: Is unfinished.
Okay so there’s actually like 4 different plots within one game but only three character perspectives unless I make a Lan perspective which I kind of don’t want to do, I want him to be the mysterious guy to the new protags but the audience obviously knows who he is
Annette and her netNavi versus school
Tatsumi getting egged on by the mystery Navi which ends up tying into the Lan Plot as he ends up as a net detective working alongside Rose and Gil (from the Archie comics because I liked Archie even if majority of Megaman fandom did not like Archie, it had good ideas but piss poor execution and spent way too much time on the 3 arc and that unnecessary extra crossover.)
Why am I giving him Starman when he could just have Axl instead of Rose and Gil being stuck with him
The Joke Scenario which ends up having lore with the Progs who have no jobs due to the servbot problem way above
So it’s paper Mario structured. This is a condensed version of everything because my original notes regarding this project are still scattered on my hard drive.
I wanted to have it finished in time for legacy collection’s release, but that didn’t happen. Anyways, next time, I’ll go more in depth to the scenarios I’d write for and some of the supporting cast.
