More from the Mun(FF14)
Sorry there was a bit of a delay, I was watching transformers one. Another reupload, I'm thinking of alternating stories between my ask blog answers.
Back from my ask Blog days. I'll just copy paste them here, but if you're curious the blog is still up so the format is readable. I had little banners and everything.
Do what degree did you intend your OC to be canon-compliant? Did you end up sticking to this or did you veer off into unforeseen territory over time?
The most straightforward answer I can give is that I attempt to be canon compliant enough for in game RP stuff (its how I got most of the ideas for my OCs in the first place to be workers) and its that kind of canon I attempt to stick with when I’m writing out answers for this blog.
As for another answer for the stories that aren’t in particular written down for this specific blog or posted (yet), I kind of treat FFXIV’s world like a sandbox at points… some parts are from canon, some parts are original. Same goes for the OCs.
😖 Which is your least favorite chore to do around the house?
It’s cleaning. Has to be cleaning. In basically every form (dishes, sweeping) minus laundry. Laundry is nice, warm, and doesn’t make me sneeze whenever I get too close to it because most other things involve spraying or scrubbing and doing the dishes is a huge texture issue for me.
This has the unfortunate side effect of me constantly needing to sort out things often since I’m disorganized, but that’s less of a chore and more of a personal issue on my end.
☕ How do you take your coffee or tea? If you drink neither, what is your morning beverage?
If I drink tea, I like to have it warm with a bit of sweetener. Unfortunately, for coffee I’m one of those types who likes it unbearably sweet to the point it tastes more like a dessert.
in my defense, it’s bitter when it’s just by itself.
🎀give yourself a compliment about your own writing
I like the concepts I come up with for characters? I’ve made a few somewhat interesting OCs for FF14 while playing them, even if not all of them are actual characters (with appearances… or names.)
[ bumblebee ] where have you always wanted to travel to?
When I was younger, I wanted to go exploring in things like one of those cross country road trips or visiting the seven wonders of the world!
Now, probably some place like Paris or Rome or some place for some good photos.
🍝 — favorite food(s)?
I’ve probably got a lot more but I’ll try narrowing it down to three i can think of. Currently it’s a toss up between sushi in various forms (poke bowls come to mind), pizza (I like trying a lot of toppings on them, even stuff that gets meme’d on like pineapple), and brownies (one of the few desserts I can tolerate.)
🎧 — do you write while listening to music/podcasts/videos/etc, or do you need total silence?
It’s mixed between silence or media. Sometimes I do better just sitting down with a blank piece of paper and jotting down ideas and other times I’m in total chaos playing a music mix or a stream so I can multitask. Same goes for me drawing too. I feel it’s best for me to do something different every time to see what works for me the best.
…. i don’t have a routine i kind of just go whenever I’m in the mood for it but i probably should make a routine…
18. What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?
Out of my fics that I’ve published so far, my favorite thing I’ve written has to be Pepper in the narrative rambling to Rene about his own house that I wrote for Febhyurary. (the kicker is that he’s the only one that doesn’t pay the rent.)
Here’s the whole segment I wrote on it:
I am a professional wanderer. I have no home. It’s definitely not the one in the lavender beds that Rene lends out to anyone who comes by for rent… how come he got a house? I put like. A million billion Gil into the auction and I lost. I don’t want an apartment though… do you think if I ask nicely that I could get a private island?
”Pepper, get out of my house.”
How much importance do you attach to humour when creating a character? Are there inevitably comic elements? Or are you more focused upon angst or drama?
OC asks: It kind of depends? I can’t find myself writing a fully joke character because the ones I’ve attempted to have gotten a lot of depth within my own notes (Rene and Pepper come to mind) but I also can’t write characters who are super serious all the time because my head goes “this fella needs to lighten up.” There’s sort of a balance I want to reach with my characters where they can be within both comedy and drama.
Was there something in the MSQ or even a side-questline, that inspired you to create them? Perhaps meeting the Sylphs or the Namazu? Or visiting the Unsundered World? Or even something to do with crafting or gathering?
Behind the scenes… not exactly that I can recall? Most of my inspiration for my characters came from making them design first in the character creator and then making stuff up as I go so there’s not really much inspiration from the MSQ for the initial eight (the one’s the blog focuses on.) I do try to have some integration from the MSQ for them, like how Lily was a scholar from Sharlayan so there’s a chance she could’ve studied with some of the Scions. It’s kind of pointless in the current moment now since she’s mostly been handling wild goose chases on her area of study (aetherology) only for most of it to be completely blown away by MSQ revelations. Bon was a clone from Allagan history (Specifically the Xande Era where he was cloned) that sort of wandered off after the empire fell and has sort of been living completely unaware he’s in the wrong time period.
As for others I haven’t spoken on much (or written for that matter) , those are MSQ adjacent in the sense that I make reference to MSQ stuff with them but only with like little nods and occasional NPC cameos. My current interest lies sort of in the crafting and gathering bit which extends into worldbuilding and my OCs are sort of the way for me to explore the daily life of Eorzea and probably other bits.
In reference to an ask from my other blog
I’ve been learning to write and draw more often for my XIV OCs as a whole, which has been a fun exercise, so maybe for this post I’ll talk about the creative talents of some of them as well.
Sage likes to draw, but she’s got a very simplistic style. Stuff like fine arts tend to be not her forte, and doubly so for looking at hidden symbolism or deception. A “curtains are blue type.”
Lady Lily, on the other hand, very much appreciates the fine arts and is the total opposite, but despite reading and enjoying many novella of the high class, she can’t write anything heavily prose or detail wise.
it’s a side gig (one of many for him) and not something he particularly cares to brag about, but Pepper is a painter of sorts! In fact, I have an outfit dedicated to his painting attire (which is just him cosplaying Ado from Kirby’s dreamland 3.)
