Rumors verse is certainly an interesting addition. Remember the glitch users? This is basically where that idea went… into writing about creepypasta inspired in-fighting.
I should make a fighting roster TBH
Rumors and Encounters is such a stupid story and premise that it barely counts as a Pokémon story but it does since it primarily focuses on glitch users
and the glitch timeline but then it also starts slowly extending into creepypastas and weird things in general that need To be glued together like limimal
spaces and personalization and the power of concepts taking on a life never intended by the author and I guess?? The collective unconscious??
I probably should’ve brought up that I had played a run of Pokémon red where I had done the Mew glitch before I had drawn Ketsuban.
I encountered Missingno on that save and tried to use it, but it had sucked ass so I rerolled a save state to before doing the glitch.
When I was trying to outline the mew story, I kept thinking “what if there was a timeline where Red kept Missingno and there were consequences?”
I think that’s where the idea for Ketsuban actually began.
I did that run on my birthday, so does that mean that really concept wise that character shares the
same birthday as me? Is that egotistical? I’m sure if this site had more views that he would be torn
apart since I borrowed the face detail from another popular Pokémon creepypasta character (Steven’s OG sprite on his trainer card)
but then I split the more popular concept from that certain mod into “creepy kid” and “apathetic teenager.”
(There is no Steven in the rumors universe because IDGAF about that guy aside from his design.)
It’s not that I’m not a fan of the adult glitchy red that people seem to adore,
it’s just that there’s an inherent part of the story that gets erased when you consider the original
glitchy red was a child pissed off that no one wanted to play his game in particular anymore
because Fire red and Leaf Green were considered the better versions and the people who usually
played the OG were just there to observe glitches and in the story proper doing glitches caused him pain.
Quite frankly if i was erased from existence by a replacement and then dragged back to relevance
because of another replacement and everyone else liked the new replacement more I’d just start biting people.
So maybe Ketsuban is inspired by glitchy red now, idk, the dream was such a long time ago that I have no clue what my brain wanted me to do with him.
(It’s also kinda funny how the new Glitchy Red is pixiv red’s fault because the OG design for the mod was just Pixiv Red. That man refuses to stay dead in the cultural power of pokemon.)
There’s a lot more Reds, the thing is if I keep putting more info on the glitch users page it’ll eventually just turn into Ketsuban and gen 1 friends because there’s a lot more about Ultimus and Cyan that I did not write about but I’ll never get to talking about Glitch User Gold (who is based off the unown centric stories )
or the rest of the og concept because Glitch User May can stop time, and I want to talk about that more versus “Ketsuban, my sad little meow meow
who is an avatar of an eldritch abomination that not even god loves.”
(In a world where all the Reds got along like all the Blues and Greens do
they would be the worst group ever and either spend time beating each other
up like they do in rumors canon or just messing around in their rival’s apartment. Too many Reds.)
And the thing is, there are more people I can put on the page, but I’d rather talk about actual glitches and weird things in games than just
copy paste creepypasta stuff. So some of them are inspired,
But not the same.
Like there’s an animal crossing character who has influences from Aika Village, but they are not the same because my other inspiration was the weird beta worlds left in the GameCube releases.
And the end result is still stupid because on my cohost I was like “I want a fighting game roster of creepypastas and
I want to see them beat the crap out of each other” and I’m pretty sure that IS the main inspiration because something
like herobrine kicking sonic.exe’s ass would change my teenage self’s life.
My favorite phenomena and one I’m going to use the hell out of is the concept of game stats vs lore stats where more or less I’m going full competitive and saying “look if it gets walled by amoongus and killed by stealth rock then it’s trash”
When I whip out my terrastalized Rock tinkaton with smack down doing Quad STAB damage on a haunted charizard (it OKHOs)
Rumors 2: The follow up
You see, the site would’ve been PG-13 but then I remembered the source material in question was all over the place
I keep waffling on Ketsuban’s origin story of like
Is he real or a fictional Red
Like he has a few different stories pulling from like OG GR, Creepy Black was originally on Red and that’s where the whole time loop thing even comes from since you can reset and pick and choose who lives or dies but the ghost still kills you regardless, and the Mt. Silver stories also have him and like, he’s a walking contradiction of multiple origin stories and utilizing the power of missingno
The OG thing on the rumors page is like “yeah these two Fire and Ketsuban have like something going on” and the something in question was just being sonic and metal sonic lmao
And the answer is “maybe” because the guy himself spawned into existence and like he’s working off the assumption that he’s Red and the other ones a fake
Is he just lying to himself the whole time because he doesn’t know because he’s been so actively corrupted by like constant hard resets and bug hunts and modifications within a single cartridge to the point he doesn’t even register what’s going on half the time since he’s on autopilot or is he just going with what people are assuming and going “yeah that’s definitely me that’s what we’re going with now, that’s definitely what I am (lying)”
Myo is entirely imaginary and therefore immediately sussed out that “Red is not supposed to be able to do that, I think you just gained self awareness in the cartridge like Cyan did”
My imagination works overdrive and now the canon thing that happens is basically Mt. Silver turns into Slay the Princess but Cyan’s really bad at the entire thing
How bad can you be at killing a single guy it causes the multiverse to collapse on a singularity
Dawn and Gold are watching the whole time

Pokemon does have anti piracy measures in place though for like HGSS where the pokeballs spin infinitely

Like the concept of a guy who thinks he’s red but is an entirely fictional character based off a “red” that doesn’t exist is probably more interesting than whatever Ketsuban is doing when I’m trying to write it where Myo describes him as “empty headed puppet listening to an equally empty headed master” where it’s clear that between him and the incomprehensible legion known as missingno neither of them know what’s going on whatsoever and his jealousy of Fire is mostly just him being needlessly petty since the Red of that world in the twins AU named Fire as his successor and Ketsuban’s perspective was like “I’m Red, I don’t like that guy enough to name him as a successor because I didn’t get to decide it because I am no longer that guy apparently so what I’m going to do is give the successor horrible psychological nightmares where no one sees him as legitimate so I can break his resolve and those nightmares reflect off how I feel about this entire situation.” And that’s how pokemon false red happens in the rumors verse. There’s like a red trinity.
So in terms of like comparisons basically Missingno is Azazoth and Ketsuban is like. Idk. Nyarlahotep.
What about Leaf. The funny thing about Leaf is that like Ketsuban barely notices she exists like his tunnel vision did not extend to leaf whatsoever and that’s the only reason Fire even realizes he’s in a nightmare because she’s the only one who didn’t admonish him even though she was also named as Red’s successor.
The story of an incredibly unhealthy child deciding to inflict psychological harm onto another child so that way he doesn’t have to properly analyze his identity and then like, it’s identity problems all the way down in terms of Red the living legend and everyone who will ever try to reach that status. If it is anyone’s fault though it’s the one who had the literal haunted cartridge in the first place because like, the moment your game started exhibiting self awareness and taking away your input controls and just doing off screen grinding maybe that was a big sign something was wrong.
The thing about the successor thing is that Red didn’t even mean to say it in like a way that cursed anyone like all he said was “maybe one day you’ll even surpass me and beat me in battles” and leaf was like “so we’d be like your successors then” and the answer was “Hmm, I suppose so!”
It’s only because of the massive media freak out that caused major problems of everyone expecting Fire to be a prodigy just like how his sister was and everyone else from Pallet Town
Or a possible in universe context: people definitely traded Pokémon between two haunted cartridges and accidentally made the two haunted copies aware of each other and that’s why Cyan and Ketsuban are locked in like this conflict of two haunted boys lashing out at each other
Who is making haunted cartridges though, why is there like an evil gamefreak
